When a Certification Is Actually Useful

Certifications in advertising and marketing serve varied purposes, signaling structured learning, platform knowledge, compliance, and professional commitment. However, not all certifications have equal value, and they should not replace real competence. Hiring managers should assess the real-world applicability of credentials rather than relying solely on them to gauge capability.

How to Decide Whether a Lateral Move Is Worth It

Lateral moves in advertising and marketing, often undervalued, can significantly enhance professional capabilities despite lacking a promotion. The AAMA Awards recognize individuals whose work, leadership, ideas, and contributions have made a meaningful impact on advertising, marketing, and the wider professional community.

The Association’s Person of the Year recognition continues a tradition established by AAMA’s predecessor organizations. As the Association grows, its awards program will continue to evolve, creating new opportunities to recognize achievement throughout the profession.

One Association, A Broader Community

The American Advertising and Marketing Association represents the evolution of professional organizations that once served North, Central, and South America independently. In 2025, the North American Advertising and Marketing Alliance, Central American Advertising and Marketing Alliance, and South American Advertising and Marketing Alliance formally joined together as the American Advertising and Marketing Alliance.

In 2026, the organization became the American Advertising and Marketing Association, reflecting its continued development into a unified professional association. While the majority of AAMA’s membership is based in the United States, its broader mission connects advertising and marketing professionals throughout the Americas.

AAMA is supported by an organizational structure that includes its Board of Directors, executive leadership, committees, regional representatives, and a developing network of national, state, and major-city chapters. Together, these groups help ensure that the Association remains connected to the professionals, institutions, communities, and markets it serves.

As AAMA grows, this network will support expanded educational programming, professional development, events, research, local engagement, and new opportunities for members to participate directly in the work of the Association.
